Explore Nature at These Outdoor Attractions Near Lely Resort

If you are staying at one of the many beautiful Lely Resort vacation rentals, then you must make time to explore the nature and wildlife that the area as to offer. The outdoor attractions discussed below are all worth a visit and are sure to leave you with lasting memories and unforgettable experiences.

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park

One of the greatest outdoor things to do in Naples, FL is to visit Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. 

Some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida are located at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. It also has amazing nature, ocean, and wildlife to explore. 

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park offers various water-based activities. Fishing is one of the most popular activities in the park. You can fish from the shoreline along Wiggins Pass or wade fish in Water Turkey Bay. If you’d rather head out to sea to do your fishing, you can fish from a boat in the Gulf, Water Turkey Bay and the Cocohatchee River. In order to fish at the park, you must have a valid Florida fishing license. If fishing isn’t your thing, you can rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddle board through Naples Beach Adventures.

If you prefer to stay on dry land, you can instead explore the area on foot or find a bike rental near Lely Resort and ride it on the trails in the park. Both of these activities are permitted in the swimming areas. All of these activities give you the chance to witness some amazing views and unique ocean wildlife. 

Getting to Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park from our Lely Resort rentals is a simple 35-minute drive. If you are driving, you will take I-75 North almost the entire way there from the Resort. The park is open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year. Entrance fees are $6 and are charged per vehicle instead of per person. This fee gives you access to a wide array of tours and activities throughout the park.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

The Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is one of Naples’ finest nature preserves near Lely Resort. It consists of 13,000 acres of wilderness and is managed by the National Audubon Society. A visit to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary takes you to the heart of the ecosystem of the Everglades to discover a large variety of impressive plant and animal species.

One journey that you can choose through the Sanctuary takes place on their famous boardwalk.  This is a winding 2.5-mile adventure through the thick and marshy Everglades and into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. In your exploration you have the chance to see otters, endangered species of birds, red-bellied turtles, or even alligators! 

The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is located a little over 30 minutes east of Naples. Currently, admission to the Sanctuary is only available through a timed entrance ticket. You can purchase your ticket online ahead of time or in person. General admission is $14 a person for adults, while children under the age of 8 are free.

CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail

CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail not only provides some of the best bird watching in the area, but also some of the best walking trails in Naples, FL as well. These trails are relatively new and opened to the public in July of 2011. The Bird Rookery Swamp Trail consists of 12 miles of hiking and biking trails in addition to a 1,500-foot boardwalk. 

While visiting the CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail, you can hike, bike, or simply watch for birds and observe nature. These trails offer some wonderful birding because of their abundance of songbirds, raptors, and wading birds. During the summer, barred owls and swallow-tailed kites have been sighted as well. If you’re interested in more than birds, some other wildlife you can see are alligators, white-tailed deer, or even a bobcat. 

The CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail is located about 35 minutes North of Lely Resort and is a simple drive with few turns. The trails are open from sunrise to sunset and are free to use, although they do accept donations.  From your Lely Resort Condo Rental, all of the above parks, trails, and sanctuaries can be easily accessed. Add an adventure to at least one of these places to your travel itinerary and you will not be disappointed!
